Twitterrific 5 Updated With App Badges, Favstar Support, Twitter Trends And More

April 23, 2013
A month ago, the popular iOS Twitter client Twitterrific 5 was finally updated with support for push notifications, albeit in beta and with limited reach. Today, this feature has been improved with the introduction of app badges. Twitterrific 5 has once again received a major update, and with it comes support for app badges for push notifications. Provided you've already activated the push notification feature within Twitterrific 5, you can activate app badges in the Notifications section in the Settings app. App badges carry notification counts for replies, mentions, and direct messages. According to Twitterrific 5 developer The Iconfactory, using app badges also clears message from Notification Center. The new Twitterrific 5 update also brings Favstar support and Twitter trending topics. Favstar support can be enabled in the Other Services section in the Settings pane of the app itself. This new feature lets you view a user's Favstar page as well as view a tweet's Favstar info. As for Twitter trending topics, these can be seen in Twitterrific 5 by opening the sidebar, tapping Search, and selecting the Tweets tab. Alongside those major features, the following minor improvements are included in Twitterrific 5's latest update:
  • Faster tweet loading time
  • Search interface remembers last selected tab
  • Support for Twitter stock symbols ($AAPL, etc)
  • New tweet count stays on screen until the timeline is scrolled
  • Home timeline auto-refreshes when posting a new tweet or DM
  • Automatic theme changing now based on dawn/dusk at your location
  • Compose gesture: one-finger swipe left/right to adjust cursor
  • VoiceOver now speaks hint text at the bottom of settings panel
  • VoiceOver now speaks muffled tweet descriptions
  • Holding timeline position improved when using VoiceOver
  • Photo viewer can be dismissed using VoiceOver's two-finger Z gesture
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, Twitterrific 5 is available in the App Store for $2.99. Released as a completely new app in December last year, Twitterrific 5 was favorably reviewed by Christine here on AppAdvice. "Rather than provide everything but the kitchen sink, such as my long-time favorite, Tweetbot," she wrote, "Twitterrific makes it a pleasure to actually indulge in your timeline. In a way, you could say it’s … terrific." [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
