Upcoming Update Will Bring LTE Support To Unlocked iPhone 5s On T-Mobile

April 2, 2013
Customers using an unlocked iPhone 5 on T-Mobile will soon be able to take full advantage of the carrier’s new LTE network. According to an internal memo uncovered by TMoNews, a carrier update on Friday, April 5 will bring support for LTE and numerous other features like Visual Voicemail. Here’s the complete memo:
The T-Mobile Carrier Update is a minor iOS software update that enables official iPhone support by T-Mobile. When installed, the software update enables a handful of capabilities like Visual Voicemail, MMS Settings and Network/Device optimizations that customers do not have access to today. On April 5, the software update will begin being pushed via OTA to all iPhone devices on the T-Mobile network with iOS 6.1.x or higher.
T-Mobile will be officially offering the iPhone 5 for sale one week later on Friday, April 12. The carrier will be trying something a little different as far as handset pricing goes. Buyers will be able to purchase a 16GB iPhone 5 by paying $100 down. The rest of the handset will be paid off in $20 monthly installments for the next two years. And 9to5Mac is also reporting that customers wanting to buy a T-Mobile iPhone at an Apple Store will also be able to take advantage of a similar payment plan. Thanks to a partnership with T-Mobile and Barclays, Apple will offer 24-month, no interest payments when purchasing a handset at a retail store. Barclays will also give a $70 credit to a buyer’s account.
