Released in October 2009, Mushroom Wars used to be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation Network (PSN). But last January, the popular real-time strategy game broke out of its PSN exclusivity and broke into iPad. And now, the game has made its way to another device.

Mushroom Wars is now playable on iPhone, thanks to the launch of Mushroom Wars Mini.

But guess what. Coinciding with the release of Mushroom Wars Mini is the release of Mushroom Wars’ long-awaited multiplayer mode.

Also supported in Mushroom Wars Mini, Mushroom Wars’ multiplayer mode lets you engage in network battles with up to three opponents. It’s currently available on five campaign maps, with at least 12 more maps already underway.

Note, though, that the new multiplayer mode is not supported on the first-generation iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod touch. But these devices are more than capable of supporting the single-player mode, which now features five new missions and a news section.

Compatible with iPad running iOS 5.1.1 or later, the newly updated Mushroom Wars is available in the App Store for free. Mushroom Wars Mini, on the other hand, is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 5.1.1 or later, but is also available in the App Store for free.

That’s right. In celebration of Mushroom Wars’ multiplayer update and Mushroom Wars Mini’s launch, both games are yours for the taking for free. Note, though, that both games offer in-app purchases for various upgrades and unlocks.
