RunKeeper Update Brings Integration With The Pebble Smartwatch

May 7, 2013
Pebble smartwatch users can finally do something more than play a game of Snake. Fitness app RunKeeper has just been updated to add integration with the watch that took Kickstarter by storm last year. With version 3.3 of RunKeeper, users can keep track of pace, speed, and distance traveled during a workout session directly on the watch's screen. A workout can also be paused and resumed directly from the Pebble. Here’s a short video that shows the integration. Click here if you can’t see the video. Also, the update brings support for new languages – Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portugese, and Japanese. RunKeeper is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch. It can be downloaded now in the App Store for free. Users can also upgrade to RunKeeper Elite with an in-app purchase. One month of the service is $4.99 while a year’s subscription is $19.99. As you probably know, Pebble burned up Kickstarter last year as backers pledged more than $10 million to snag one of the watches, making it the most popular Kickstarter project ever. After a few setbacks, the watches finally began shipping to backers in February. If you’re not willing to pay the absurd eBay prices like I did, you can preorder one of the watches on Pebble’s site for $150. Shipping is listed as sometime this summer.
