Disney's ScribbleMix Is A Monstrously Absurd Draw Something-Like Game

June 6, 2013
With just a couple of weeks to go before "Monsters University" hits theaters, Disney has released another mobile title to promote the sequel to 2001's "Monsters, Inc." And that mobile title is a new game called ScribbleMix. Actually, ScribbleMix is not an out-and-out "Monsters University" tie-in product, unlike Monsters University Storybook Deluxe, Monsters University: Catch Archie, and even Monsters, Inc. Run. Rather, it promotes the upcoming film as long as its free limited-time "Monsters University" pack is available. This pack includes words and phrases inspired by the movie. These words and phrases may be used to play ScribbleMix, which, as it turns out, is a turn-based drawing guessing game akin to Draw Something. But unlike Draw Something, ScribbleMix assigns players with absurd words and phrases. Because of this, it also differentiates itself from Draw Something by letting players choose from a group of possible words and phrases as they attempt to guess the drawings. Can you draw or guess a "King Partying In A Castle"? How about a "Robot Jumping On Ice"? Or a "Quarterback In Space"? Can you make sense of "Mike Playing Football In A Library," one of the phrases from the "Monsters University" pack? Find out by playing ScribbleMix with your friends. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. The game is integrated with Facebook, so you can easily find Facebook friends to play with as well as share your ridiculous doodles on the social network. Correct guesses between you and your friends enable you to advance on "a world map of competitors where the most dynamic drawing duos can win best friend-scores, earn coins and gems, and unlock new color packs and content." Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, ScribbleMix is available now in the App Store for free. With the initial download, you get 200 free coins and 10 free gems. Coins can be used to "re-spin" words and phrases to draw, while gems can be used to unlock new category packs. In case you run out of coins and gems, you can get more via in-app purchase. The release of ScribbleMix comes just a couple of days after news broke that Zynga had laid off 18 percent of its workforce. As part of this move, the social gaming company shut down OMGPOP, which was acquired by Zynga last year after coming up with a hit game called Draw Something. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
