Shelf Control: Tales Of Magic And Adventure Await In Disney Storytime, Out Now For Free

June 24, 2013
Late last March, Disney released Disney Storytime, an app that collects 20 Disney stories for iDevice-toting children of all ages. Originally priced at $1.99, the app has recently been made available to download for free. And for that reason, the app has been deemed by yours truly as worth another look for this week's edition of Shelf Control. First things first: when it was available to download for a fee, Disney Storytime initially included three stories for free, with the other 17 stories unlockable via in-app purchase. And now that it's downloadable without charge, the setup for story availability remains the same. That is, Disney Storytime still includes three free stories, with the others available to unlock with in-app purchases. The three free stories are "Monsters, Inc.: Always Time for a Laugh," "Tangled: Rapunzel’s Story," and "Toy Story: Starry Night." And the 17 other stories collected in Disney Storytime are:
  • "101 Dalmatians: Puppy Trouble"
  • "Aladdin: Abu’s Adventure"
  • "Beauty and the Beast: Belle and the Castle Puppy"
  • "Cars: Rematch"
  • "Cars: Radiator Springs Road Trip"
  • "Cinderella: The Lost Mice"
  • "Finding Nemo: A Friend in Need"
  • "Lion King: A Day Without Pumbaa"
  • "Sleeping Beauty: Buttercup the Brave"
  • "The Aristocats: The Coziest Carriage"
  • "The Incredibles: Super Annoying"
  • "The Little Mermaid: A Special Song"
  • "The Princess And The Frog: A Surprise Guest"
  • "Toy Story: A Tight Squeeze"
  • "Toy Story: Mixed Signals"
  • "Up: Watch Dug"
  • "Wall-E: Down to Earth"
All of these stories are enhanced with colorful illustrations and animation, professional narration, original music, and engaging sound effects. They are also equipped with read-to-me and voice recording features. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. As mentioned, Disney Storytime is now available in the App Store for free. The app uses a safe system that lets parents purchase credits first before kids can choose the additional books they want to read. The following packages are offered under this system, with one credit equivalent to one story unlock: two credits for $3.99, five stories for $9.99, and 17 stories for $14.99.
