One of my favorite iPhone apps,, has just gained some handy improvements with a recent update. Probably the nicest addition in version 3.1 is the ability to select a speed testing location from the site’s network of servers around the world. The testing engine behind the app has also been revamped to improve overall performance and reliability. Expanding its reach, the app has now been translated and is available in 15 different languages. Users can also contact Ookla directly from the app by selecting the About tab. And along with the usual amount of bug fixes and performance improvements, the update fixes an issue where some users would see a zero test result. is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch but it is compatible with the iPad. It can be downloaded now for free in the App Store. An in-app purchase of $0.99 will permanently disable the advertisements in the app. Back in March, the app received a long-awaited update that added support for the larger screen of the iPhone 5 while bringing a revamped and nicer looking user interface. I’m still holding out a little bit of hope that a native iPad/iPad mini version of the app might be in the pipeline. But for now, I’ll just have to be content with the iPhone version.
