Cydia Tweak: PebbleActivator Enables Control Of Your iOS Device From A Pebble Watch

July 16, 2013
If you’ve ever jailbroken an iOS device, you're probably familiar with a Cydia tweak called Activator. Activator may be one of the most downloaded tweaks in the Cydia store. This allows you to perform actions on an iOS device using various gestures, taps, and the hardware buttons. Ryan Petrich is the developer behind Activator, and recently, he’s taken this popular tweak in an entirely different direction. Sure, it’s great to use gestures and buttons on the device to perform actions, but Ryan thinks outside of the box, and thus, PebbleActivator was born. Keep in mind, this handy little creation is only available for jailbroken devices. This tweak is currently in beta, but it will allow you to perform the same Activator actions you've seen on iOS using the buttons on a Pebble watch. It’s pretty neat and we’ve put together a video to demonstrate the process. Check out our video overview below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNExaQcUrMk

PebbleActivator installs as its own app outside of the standard Activator app. Once you launch the app, you’ll be able to install the required app to the Pebble watch. After you’re done with that, everything works exactly like Activator. Launch the PebbleActivator app on your iOS device to configure various actions. You can even stack multiple actions to trigger different events at once. In its current form, there are six different methods of activation: Press Top Button, Press Middle Button, Press Bottom Button, Hold Top Button, Hold Middle Button, and Hold Bottom Button. Of course, for any of these activation methods to work, you’ll need to have the PebbleActivator app open on your Pebble watch. It’s not necessary to have the iOS app open in the foreground. Navigate to the Activator app on your Pebble watch, then press one of the buttons you’ve configured to perform that action. It’s a very simple idea, but has limitless possibilities. If you want to feel like Inspector Gadget, I highly recommend checking out this tweak. Add the following URL to your Cydia sources:

Currently, PebbleActivator is available as a free beta in Ryan Petrich’s beta repository. I see a lot of potential for PebbleActivator and I can't wait until it's officially released.
