Twitterrific, the popular Twitter alternative for iOS, has been updated to version 5.2.3. Now, users of the application can enjoy a refreshed visual appearance, along with one useful new feature, a number of performance improvements, and the usual bug fixes.

First up, let’s talk features: Twitterrific 5.2.3 adds a brand new sidebar item called “Today,” which makes it possible for users to easily view their recent mentions, direct messages, retweets, favorites, and new followers. This is a useful feature, allowing iDevice owners to check on all their recent Twitter activity from one place. Do note, however, that the Today sidebar item is available when push notifications are activated in the Settings app.

In addition to this, developer The Iconfactory has made a number of performance improvements to the app, which include:

  • Updated visual appearance
  • Images in the photo viewer are maximized for the current screen size
  • In-app browser now plays audio for videos even if the device is set to silent
  • When replying to multiple users, secondary usernames are auto-selected for quick deletion

And finally, a large number of bug fixes have been applied. For the record, these include:

  • Fixed wrapping issues with profile text formatting
  • VoiceOver no longer reads incorrect names on DMs
  • Fixed an issue with saving conversations to Storify
  • Protected image uploads to Droplr use the correct link format
  • Avatar size setting no longer reverts when avatars are disabled
  • Fixed a crash caused by invalid URL parameter
  • Retweets are now displayed correctly on Favstar
  • The Open Page option for hashtags now opens the correct page

At the moment, Twitterrific can be downloaded in the App Store for $2.99, which is 50 percent off its usual price. If you’ve been considering ditching the official Twitter app for one of its many competitors, now could be the time to give Twitterrific a try.

As mentioned, Twitterrific 5.2.3 is presently available for $2.99, and is optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
