Unique GPS-Enhanced RPG Monster Guru Journeys From Kickstarter To App Store

July 9, 2013
After a month and a half of crowd-funding via Kickstarter and nearly a year and a half of actual development, Monster Guru has finally arrived in the App Store. Created by Utah-based independent developer Gimo Games, Monster Guru is a unique monster-collecting RPG for iOS. At first glance, it's easy to say that what makes Monster Guru unique is its distinctive visual style highlighted by its beautifully hand-drawn artwork. But perhaps what really makes it unique is its innovative geolocation gameplay. "Monster Guru features an exciting geolocation game mechanic thanks to the use of GPS hardware and software," says Gimo Games. "Geolocation is one boundary of mobile gaming that has yet to be fully realized. Monster Guru utilizes geolocation in a fun and immersive way, not as a redundant gimmick." If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Essentially, Monster Guru tracks your IRL movements and mirrors them onto the in-game world map, enabling you to unlock hidden areas and new environments. And the farther you go, the closer you get toward becoming the titular master of Monsters, dozens of which are yours to capture and engage in battle. Monster Guru is available now in the App Store for the special introductory price of $0.99. Unfortunately, the game is not yet natively compatible with iPad. It's recommended for play on an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, but it's also playable on an iPhone 4, albeit with reduced quality of graphics. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
