ABC's Promise To Mobile Customers Goes Unfulfilled As New Television Season Looms

ABC's Promise To Mobile Customers Goes Unfulfilled As New Television Season Looms

August 13, 2013
In May, ABC became the first U.S. network to offer live video streaming on mobile devices. Unfortunately, the service remains absent for most cable and satellite subscribers nearly three months after its introduction. ABC first announced live video streaming at its upfront presentation for advertisers for the 2013/14-television season. At the time, the Disney company said that the service would launch nationwide on July 1. This was to be preceded by a six-week introductory phase for areas around New York and Philadelphia. The promised nationwide rollout has yet to happen, although the service has expanded since May. At the time of this writing, Watch ABC live video streaming is available in the following areas:
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • New York City Area
  • Southern California
  • Philadelphia
  • Durham, North Carolina
  • San Francisco Bay Area
We’ve reached out to ABC to see when we should expect live video streaming on a national level. Hopefully, we’ll hear from them soon. When we do, we’ll update this post. The free Watch ABC app is available in the App Store. Note: Live streaming is currently limited to AT&T U-verse, Charter, COX, Optimum, Verizon FiOS, and Xfinity customers.
