GIF It Up For Flipboard: Popular Social Magazine App Updated With GIF Support

August 15, 2013
Whether you pronounce "GIF" with a hard G or a soft G, you're bound to like the latest update to Flipboard for iOS if you happen to be one of the many people who just can't get enough of GIFs. That's because the new update adds support for viewing those larger-than-life animated gems right within the popular social magazine app. The Flipboard team notes:
Who doesn’t love GIFs? Flipboard readers have already incorporated them into lively magazines like “Just GIF It,” “GIF Pop” and “GIF Me a Break.” Already on Android, GIF support comes to Flipboard for iPad and iPhone—so now anyone can collect and share their favorites in a magazine. (To celebrate, we’ve got some GIF-centric magazines we love featured today in By Our Readers. Tap on the red ribbon to find them in the Content Guide.)
But the addition of support for GIFs is not the only new thing about the new version of Flipboard for iOS. The newly updated app also introduces Top Stories in U.S. News, Business, Tech, and Sports, with the first seven stories in these sections being, well, the top stories at any given moment. The app now also displays a "pagebox" on the fourth page of your magazines when you've created more than two magazines. This pagebox contains an avatar that shows the curator's profile page when tapped. And when you've added or "flipped" 10 items to a magazine, the app now prompts you to share it with your friends and followers. The new version of Flipboard is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later. Flipboard was originally released for iPad in 2010. Its iPhone and iPod touch edition was launched in 2011, followed by its Android version last year. The app made its debut on the Web just last month. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
