Write For iPhone 2.0 Features iOS 7 Redesign, New Themes, Rich Text Editing And More

September 22, 2013
The slick note-taking and writing app Write for iPhone, formerly Write for Dropbox, has just been updated to version 2.0. And with the arrival of its 2.0 update, the app has been significantly redesigned and optimized for iOS 7. "Write has been updated to take all of the advantages of the new technologies in iOS," writes Mumbai-based indie developer Tanmay Sonawane in the update's release notes. "Every element has been redesigned to feel right at home with iOS 7. Even the icon is more refined and polished." With this interface revamp come a couple of new themes for Write for iPhone. These two themes are designed to match the color finishes of the iPhone. In fact, one of them is named after the new Space Gray color option for the iPhone 5s. The other theme is called Cloudy White. Aside from its cosmetic improvements, Write for iPhone 2.0 adds support for rich text editing. As a result, Write for iPhone now offers three new editing options: full rich text markdown editing, hybrid editing, and plain text. "Write is now the world's first app to bring you full rich text experience with power of markdown," Sonawane proudly proclaims, "this is not just simple syntax highlighting." In addition, Write for iPhone 2.0 includes the following enhancements:
  • Landscape Writing (rotate your iPhone when in edit mode and back to portrait when done)
  • App launch time is now less than 2 secs (tested on iPhone 5)
  • Cursor mode lag on large documents is now fixed (iOS7 only)
  • TextExpander SDK updated to support iOS7. Make sure you upgrade TextExpander app on your iPhone.
  • A ton of small bug fixes
Write for iPhone 2.0 is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a new $1.99 download. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later. Write for iPad is also available in the App Store for $1.99. Note, though, that it's yet to be updated for iOS 7. According to Sonawane, Write for iPad's iOS 7 update is scheduled to arrive in a couple of weeks.
