Early last month, Dictionary.com Dictionary & Thesaurus was redesigned for iOS 7. Now, it’s the app’s iPad counterpart‘s turn to be redesigned and “redefined” for Apple’s relatively new mobile operating system.
Dictionary.com Dictionary & Thesaurus for iPad has indeed been updated with a new design that matches the look and feel of iOS 7. And as in the iOS 7-optimized design of the app’s iPhone edition, one of the most notable visual improvements is the new sidebar menu. This menu beautifully reveals itself when the “hamburger” menu icon is tapped or when the screen is swiped rightward in landscape mode.
The sidebar menu provides quick access to the following sections: Home, Dictionary/Thesaurus, Favorites, Recents, Upgrades, Word of the Day, Slideshows, Blog, Trends, Translator, Options, and More Apps. With regard to the new update, a couple of these sections stand out for having just gained major enhancements.
First, the Upgrades section has been updated with three new upgrades, which are available as in-app purchase. The $1.99 Slang Dictionary offers thousands of slang definitions, the $2.99 Idioms & Phrases includes modern idioms and unusual phrases, and the $1.99 Grammar & Tips unlocks expert grammar notes and tips.
And second, the Slideshow section is now presented as a gallery of fascinating slideshows rather than as a simple thumbnail list.
The new version of Dictionary.com Dictionary & Thesaurus for iPad is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPad running iOS 5.0 or later.
Dictionary.com Premium Dictionary & Thesaurus for iPad, the app’s ad-free edition, is also available in the App Store for $4.99. It has also been updated with the same improvements.
