Pebble Announces Full iOS 7 Notification Support, Version 2.0 Of Its SDK

November 6, 2013
Smart watch maker Pebble Technology has taken a big step forward with a pair of recent announcements. First up, a forthcoming update to the companion iOS app will fully integrate the watch with iOS 7 and Notification Center. With the update, users will be able to see any enabled notification on their smart watch. Previously, only new email and text messages notifications were pushed to the Pebble. Here’s a quick video that shows what the support looks like. Click here if you can’t see the video. Pebble iOS Notifications from Pebble Technology on Vimeo. The company is also launching version 2.0 of its SDK for developers. Four new APIs:  javascript, accelerometer, data logging, and persistent storage, should open up a wide variety of new apps like real-time weather, health/fitness monitoring, and more. Other watch apps with partners like iControl, Foursquare, GoPro, and Yelp are already in the works. More than 190,000 Pebbles have been sold so far. Those users have downloaded more than 2 million watch apps and faces. The Pebble can be purchased now at the company’s site for $150. All five colors – gray, black, red, orange, and white – are in stock. For a limited time, buyers will receive free worldwide priority shipping. Buyers can also snag the smart watch at Best Buy and AT&T stores. If you’re interested in purchasing a Pebble, definitely take a look at this recent review from my colleague Joe White. He does a nice job explaining how the device is a perfect companion for iOS device owners.
