Tony Fadell, ‘Father’ Of The iPod, Shows Off The Specially Designed EarPods, Mac Pro

December 11, 2013
We now know who may have purchased the one-of-a-kind solid rose gold EarPods and the Product (RED) Mac Pro that were auctioned off last month. Former Apple vice president, and current Nest CEO Tony Fadell, has been spotted demonstrating the treasures, designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson. On Twitter, Kevin Abosch took pictures of Faddell with the computer and EarPods. While it’s unknown whether Fadell was the buyer, it’s probably safe to assume that he was. Combined, Fadell paid around $1.4 million for both pieces - $977,000 for the Mac Pro and $461,000 for the EarPods. All proceeds for the (RED) Auction benefited The Global fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. After leaving Apple, Fadell turned his attention to the home space with Nest. The company introduced the well-received Nest Thermostat in 2011 and followed up this year with the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Both devices are controlled by a spectacularly designed iOS app. The regular edition of the Mac Pro that Fadell was showing off still isn't even available for consumers to purchase. Apple has only stated that it will arrive sometime this month.
