Apple To Hold 'Red Friday' Lunar New Year Sale In Select Asian Markets On Jan. 10

January 7, 2014
Apple has just announced that it’s set to hold its annual one-day shopping event in a number of countries in Asia in celebration of Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year. The event is scheduled on Friday, Jan. 10, exactly three weeks before the beginning of the festival on Jan. 31. Dubbed “Red Friday” for the significance of red in Chinese culture and its similarities to Black Friday in the U.S., the event brings discounts on various items on certain Apple online stores and retail shops in Asia. During the Red Friday sale, customers in select Asian markets including China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand can avail of numerous special deals on Apple products and accessories. Some of these are also available through the official Apple Store apps for iPhone and iPad. Whether these deals will offer direct discounts or gift card incentives (as with Apple's last Black Friday deals) remains to be seen, though. Earlier this month, another Asia-specific shopping event saw Apple fans in Japan receiving discounted products in pre-sealed packages called Lucky Bags.
