The 3 LogMeIn Alternatives iOS Users Should Consider

January 23, 2014
Earlier this week, LogMeIn angered many of its users by announcing the end of its free remote access product. We know many of our readers are now looking for some alternatives. Here are three that we found.

TeamViewer

This product allows remote control of any computer over the Internet. Full access is offered for Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Mac OS X 10.6 and later. Limited support is available for older operating systems, including Windows 2000, Windows Millennium, Windows NT, and Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.4. Main uses include: remote support, remote access, and online meeting functionality. Price: TeamViewer is absolutely free for private use. Business, premium, and corporate packages are also available. TeamView’s iOS apps include: TeamViewer for Remote Control, TeamViewer for Meetings, and TeamViewer QuickSupport. Web site: teamviewer.com.

Air Login

http://vimeo.com/56724037 Avatron’s Air Login offers remote control of any Mac on your local network. Full access is offered for Macs running OS X 10.7 or higher. A Windows version will launch in the future. Main uses include: remote support, and remote access. Price: Air Login is free to use on your local network. To use everywhere, you must purchase a subscription via Apple's in-app purchase system. A 90-day Air LoginAnywhere subscription is $4.99, while a yearly package is $14.99. The free Air Login app supports both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. Web site: avatron.com.

Splashtop Personal

http://youtu.be/LH0jrTtOjU8 Splashtop offers a number of different remote access products for iOS users. It supports Mac OS X 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9, plus Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. Linux (Ubuntu 12.04) is also supported. Main uses include: remote support, and remote access. Price: Splashtop Personal for iPad is $4.99, while the iPhone/iPod touch version is $2.99. Both allow access to up to five computers via your Splashtop account on your local network. You must purchase a monthly or annual Anywhere Access subscription to move beyond your network. These are $1.99 and $16.99, respectively. A Productivity Pack subscription adds support for configurable shortcuts, a gamepad, and whiteboard. The cost for this is also $1.99 per month, or $16.99 per year. Business and enterprises packages are also available. Web sitesplashtop.com.

Summary

If you still are committed to finding a freebie product to replace the one from LogMeIn, TeamViewer is the one you should get. If you're looking for a solution with more advanced features, and the ability to access your computer off-site, consider one of the other two. We'll continue to look for LogMeIn alternatives in the days ahead. In particular, we plan on testing Jump Desktop and Pocketcloud, among others. Stay tuned.
