Remember: Even though in-app purchases typically require your iTunes Store password for processing, you can further prevent them and other unauthorized actions by enabling local restrictions using the passcode locked iOS parental controls
Jet Car Stunts 2 by True Axis (Free, 35.2 MB): This sequel to the hit retro-style sci-fi racer hopes to push the adage of “the sky’s the limit” to the brink. The biggest increase of high-flying fun is a set of new and extra challenging free-floating tracks, which require both high-speed ground and air maneuvering skills. As before, your goal will be to simply complete the courses in the least amount of attempts. However, some instances will indeed include competitors and be time sensitive. If that weren’t enough, there are even more ducted fan engine-assisted automobiles to master, from a compact to the game’s iconic souped up IndyCar and even one truly inspired by a fighter jet. The game features the original polygon-type 3-D graphics, revamped head-up display, tilt and dual-thumb controls, seven vehicles, tri-medal rating system and Facebook integration, a unique construct as you drive track creator to submit custom courses, as well as 120 total pre-made courses spanning three difficulty levels and four track types: platforming, race, time trial, and freestyle. Unlock piece-by-piece or get everything with the $4.99 Mega Pack bundle.
LYNE by Thomas Bowker ($2.99, 15.1 MB): Utilize those neural pathways to complete this match-type line-drawing puzzler. Sort of like a printed circuit board, each stage has a cluster of shapes that must be strategically linked by following necessary guidelines. For example, every node except for hexagons, which operate as multi-point hubs, only allows one in and one out connection from an identical shape, i.e., triangle to triangle, square to square, etc. In addition, you must begin and end the chain at pinned objects, hollow shapes containing a solid within, and not cross the linking paths. The game features 2-D graphics, subtle atmospheric background music and retro computer sound effects, as well as more than 100 puzzles spanning half-a-dozen increasingly difficult sets.
SolitAll by JAK NEJDE s.r.o. ($1.99, 32.4 MB): This single person strategy board game has the challenge of Chinese Checkers in a solo puzzler like solitaire. Simple, yet difficult, the goal is to move all but one marble onto the outer ring of the board. To do so requires playing Leap Frog, i.e., jumping over one piece using another without skipping any pits allows removal of the leapt marble. As a side-objective, you’ll want to complete the puzzle as quickly as possible. The game features 3-D graphics plus Game Center leaderboards for best time and least amount of remaining marbles.
Feed Me Oil 2 by Chillingo Ltd ($2.99, 35.2 MB): The sludgy and slimy cleanup continues as this sequel to the acclaimed, quirky physics-based puzzler flows into the App Store. Once again, the oil absorbing creatures take their positions, waiting for you to cleverly redirect the black liquid into the designated area. So, grab those deflecting barrier beams, pump-type cannons, motion-moving fans and get that goop gone. The game features greatly improved hand-drawn 2.5-D graphics, charming soundtrack, 60 stages spanning four worlds, star rating system, hints, Game Center achievements, and Facebook integration.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed by SEGA ($4.99, 981.8 MB): The Sega all-stars arcade racing competition moves to the next level as the crew and you get next generation upgrades. Disguised within the seemingly similar cars, which now exhibit unique attributes, is a great new feature, transformation. Like Batman and James Bond, these cool and crazy characters are behind the wheel of amazing vehicles that can convert into aircraft, boats, and then back to high-performance automobiles at the tap of a button. Possibly just as awesome, control of these bad boy toys can now be done via virtual joystick or the former tilt-to-steer. Of course, last but not least, all of this becomes important as you face many tough tasks, including standard bump and burn racing, smash and blast battles, and precision pushing time trials. Overall, the game features 3-D graphics, humorous commentary, techno-style tunes, solo World Tour with dozens of events spanning five Grand Prixs, local (separate devices) and online multiplayer, daily and weekly challenges, two control schemes, iCloud data backup and sync support, Facebook integration, plus Game Center leaderboards and achievements.
