Incipio's NFC-Enabled Cashwrap Case For iPhone Is Now Available To Order

February 7, 2014

Incipio has announced that its Cashwrap case, which brings NFC-powered mobile wallet functionality to the iPhone, is now available to order. Customers can pick up one of the cases for $69.99 in Verizon stores nationwide and from the carrier’s online store, and Cashwrap is available for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, and iPhone 4.

As we explained last month, Incipio’s Cashwrap allows iPhone owners to use an Iris account to complete mobile payments. The case itself features a micro NFC chip built into it, and making payments using Cashwrap is reportedly as simple as tapping an iPhone against a mobile payments receiver.

In a press release that recently reached our inbox, Incipio explains:

The Incipio® CashwrapTM Case allows Verizon Wireless customers with an iPhone 4, 4S and iPhone 5, 5S to utilize the Isis Mobile Wallet® to pay at participating retailers, mass transit systems, and more with just a tap of their smartphone. The Isis Mobile Wallet holds participating payment, loyalty cards, and special offers and is accepted at leading retailers nationwide. The Incipio® CashwrapTM Case is the only Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile solution for iPhone 5/5S.

Chief executive of Incipio, Andy Fathollahi, said: “Incipio is proud to be a part of the Cashwrap Case launch with Verizon Wireless and the Isis Mobile Wallet. We are excited to be able to offer iPhone users a way to experience the benefits of Near Field Communication applications.”

Incipio’s Cashwrap is definitely an interesting product, not the least because Apple has so far refrained from bringing NFC to its iOS devices. If a handful of recent reports have it right, the Cupertino, Calif. company could be in the process of building its own mobile payments system – after all, Apple does consider mobile payments to be “one of the thoughts behind Touch ID,” so watch this space.

In the meantime, folks looking to get an iPhone-powered mobile payments fix can pick up Incipio’s Cashwrap. As mentioned, it’s available for $69.99 and is compatible with the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, and iPhone 4.
