February 24, 2014

RealPlayer Cloud, the cloud-enabled video storage and streaming app developed by Real Networks, is set to get a significant update today. The update is expected to introduce a new referral scheme and support for SMS sharing.

Launched in September last year initially for users in the U.S. and Canada, RealPlayer Cloud has been made available internationally, enabling users around the world to easily watch and share videos on their devices. Powered by RealNetworks' SurePlay technology, RealPlayer Cloud allows for auto-formatting of videos according to any device's screen size, available bandwidth, and storage space.

When you sign up for a RealPlayer Cloud account, you get 2GB of free cloud storage space. If you want more space, you can avail of a 25GB plan for an annual in-app purchase of $49.99.

Alternatively, with the upcoming new version of RealPlayer Cloud for iOS, you can refer your friends to the service and earn 1GB of free space for each friend who signs up for it. Each friend who signs up through your referral also gets an extra 1GB of free space.

The new version of RealPlayer Cloud also adds the ability to send videos via text message, in addition to email. It's worth noting that sent videos are already reformatted in the cloud for all devices.

The new version of RealPlayer Cloud is set to become available in the App Store today. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later.
