Today's Best App: White-Out

February 17, 2014
The App Store takes delivery of hundreds of new apps per day. The overwhelming scene makes it possible to easily overlook an exciting game, valuable productivity suite, etc. However, we have a solution. Today’s Best Apps tackles this problem by providing you with a handpicked and tested list of apps that are truly worth your consideration each and everyday. Remember: Even though in-app purchases typically require your iTunes Store password for processing, you can further prevent them and other unauthorized actions by enabling local restrictions using the passcode locked iOS parental controls

Universal:

White-Out by Chris Underwood (Free, 25.4 MB): This unique soccer-style tabletop competition provides a simple, quick, and yet sufficiently challenging source of entertainment for family and friends of nearly any age. Appearing so easy at first, the physics-based gameplay just requires flicking a small paintball across a slowly rotating circular field to strike a glass-like panel goal. However, depending on the selected difficulty level, the arena's surface could warp significantly, creating very tough to navigate mounds and craters, which are constantly and sometimes rapidly changing. In addition, because the match occurs in realtime, there's the possibility even a well planned and executed shot could be thwarted by a collision with an opponent's ball. The game features beautifully minimalistic 2-D and 3-D graphics, fast-paced electronic soundtrack, 90-second contests, three difficulty level choices, single finger control, as well as up to four player support via full, split, or quadrant-separated screen layouts.
