Today’s Apps Gone Free: Mini Soccer Star, Pixology, PageStudio And More

April 14, 2014

Take turns blasting a ball around pillars and hopefully into your opponent's goal in Mini Soccer Star. We also have a photography app that allows you to combine layers to create something truly unique, and a website and file editor that allows you to take your work with you.

All app prices are subject to change at any time and without notice regardless of stated free duration. Price changes are solely under the control of the developers.

iPhone:

Poetics ($1.99 → Free, 28.3 MB): Get poetic with this photography app.

You're able to import any photo from your library or take a new one from within the app. You can scale, apply filters, and adjust the parameters of your photo. Then write anything you want on it, whether that's a poem or a caption. You're able to add as few or as many words as you want and manipulate them with common gesture controls. Your unique creations can be shared via email, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, or Twitter. Poetics is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4-star rating with a total of 49 ratings.

Pixology ($0.99 → Free, 8.3 MB): Combine multiple layers to create something truly unique with this photography app.

You’re able to import any photo from your library or capture a new one from within the app. You’re then able to adjust the parameters of your base photo before beginning the layering process. When layering, you’re able to choose photos from your library, take new ones, or choose from the built-in texture library. The texture library includes 12 categories, with loads and loads of options in each. Each layer you add can be moved, rotated, resized, and made more or less transparent. You’re also able to reorder and delete layers. Once you have something you like, share it via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or AirDrop. Pixology is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4-star rating with a total of 7 ratings.

Universal:

BlinkMaster ($0.99 → Free, 91.3 MB): Don't blink when playing this trivia game.

At the beginning of each round you're provided with a category type for the question and a total of 1,500 points. When your eyes are ready, tap the big red button to begin. For a brief moment you'll be presented with nine clues to help you guess the correct answer, and then each tile will flip over revealing the amount of points it'll cost you to see them again. If your memory serves you well, go ahead and guess the answer. If not, spend points to see tiles. The game includes 13 questions sets, pass and play multiplayer, clue maps, and nine categories. BlinkMaster is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 76 ratings.

Mini Soccer Star ($1.99 → Free, 46.6 MB): Become a Mini Soccer Star in this sports game.

Choose the country you want to represent and take to the field. You will then take turns with your opponent kicking the ball. You’re able to adjust the angle of your shot by dragging your finger across the screen, and you can determine the power by timing your tap. The game is played from a first-person perspective, but you won’t find any actual players here. Instead, you will have to kick around stationary pillars that will ricochet the ball all around the field. Think of it almost as a physics-based puzzle game set in a 3-D environment. The game includes single and multiplayer modes, three scenarios to play in, and achievements and leaderboards via Game Center. Mini Soccer Star is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4-star rating with a total of 63 ratings.

Help Me Fly ($0.99 → Free, 27.8 MB): Jumpstart your brain and Propeller Joe’s plane in this puzzle game.

Each level requires you to create a path on the board in order to connect the battery to Joe’s plane. You’ll also want to try to connect the stars to the battery as well in order to achieve a perfect rating. You’re able to move and rotate pieces with taps and swipes. New elements like energy beams and wireless power transmitters will be added as you progress, making things a little more complicated. The game includes a total of four worlds and 60 levels. Two additional worlds are available via in-app purchase. Help Me Fly is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4-star rating with a total of 684 ratings.

Flip-O-Matic ($0.99 → Free, 7.6 MB): Transform your photos into symmetrical works of art with this photography app.

You're able to import any photo from your library or capture a new one from within the app. Then determine where you want your photo to be flipped by manipulating it with pinch and pull gestures. Preview your work before sending it off via Facebook, Twitter, or email. You're also able to change the number of tiles for your pattern and reuse flipped photos in your next project. Flip-O-Matic is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 58 ratings.

iPad:

PageStudio ($0.99 → Free, 3.8 MB): Work while on the go with this website and file editor.

The app’s simple, clutter-free interface allows for an efficient work environment. The left side of the screen allows you to edit your code and the right allows you to see a live preview of your work. A custom keyboard toolbar provides you with quick access to special characters and tags. PageStudio allows you to edit HTML, PHP, CSS, Javascript, and all other plain text file formats. The app also includes the ability to insert objects, an easy to use CSS formatter, a built-in FTP client, undo and redo, and Dropbox support. PageStudio is available for free today only (04/14). It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 5 ratings.
