Extra! Extra! The Guardian Updates Official iOS App With New Design And Features

May 29, 2014

The Guardian, the British national daily newspaper that's perhaps most famous in recent memory for breaking news of the Edward Snowden leaks last year, has just launched a new and improved app for iOS.

The app, also called The Guardian, has been updated to version 3.0 with a cleaner design and a more personalized user experience on iPad as well as iPhone and iPod touch.

For one thing, the revamped app boasts more interactivity, thanks to its integration with GuardianWitness, the Guardian's user-generated content platform that enables readers to contribute comments, photos, and videos.

The Guardian 3.0 also allows for more personalization as it lets you:

  • Quickly see which stories are most important with the new smart adaptive layout
  • Follow your favorite stories, series, writers and football teams for personal notifications
  • Add as many sections to your home screen as you want

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, The Guardian 3.0 is available now in the App Store for free.

The free app has a premium tier that may be unlocked via in-app purchase for $3.99 or £2.49 per month. The premium tier disables ads and offers access to daily crosswords, content from the Guardian's archive, and special extracts from Guardian books.
