Apple Closes Curtain On iAd Gallery App After Nearly 2 Years Without Updates

June 18, 2014
Apple has pulled iAd Gallery from the App Store, nearly two years after a dearth of updates for the not-so-popular app. As noted by 9to5Mac, the app is believed to have been removed from availability earlier this month, around the time of WWDC 2014, although an archived version of Apple's iAd site suggests the app was most recently featured last April. Released in April 2011, iAd Gallery was last updated in September 2012, whereupon it gained compatibility with iOS 6. Thereafter, it received no updates whatsoever, not even an update to optimize it for the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5 or redesign it for iOS 7. Back when it was available, iAd Gallery was meant to showcase the best ads on Apple's iAd mobile advertising platform:
Great ads. On-demand. In your pocket. The iAd Gallery is a celebration of advertising, featuring iAd campaigns from some of the world's best brands and their advertising agencies. The iAd Gallery gives you easy access to a selection of the fun and informative ads that have run in some of your favorite apps. Use the Browse feature to discover ads you haven't seen, or to find those you want to see again. Even lets you tag your favorites to a Loved section that’s all your own.
The iAd Gallery app is just the latest app to be pulled by Apple from the App Store for one reason or another. Other recent examples include Cards and Keynote Remote. The former was discontinued last September in favor of ordering customized cards using iPhoto for Mac, and the latter was removed in favor of the remote control feature added to Keynote for iOS.
