BlackBerry has just issued a small yet nonetheless notable update to the iOS version of its popular messaging app, BlackBerry Messenger aka BBM.

BBM for iOS was last updated significantly early last June, when it was enhanced with, among others, simpler sign-up for new users, easier sign-in for existing users, and improved experience for adding new contacts by email.

Now, the app has been updated with a redesigned interface for the “Add Contacts” screen, enabling you to do the following more quickly and easily:

  • Add new contacts to BBM by PIN, email, SMS, and barcode
  • Review and accept invites from other BBM users
  • Find friends using BBM
  • Invite address book contacts to download BBM
  • Display your barcode and scan barcodes all in one screen

The new version of BBM also includes bug fixes and performance improvements.

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later, BBM is available on the App Store for free.
