Family Sharing information appears on App Store listings

August 8, 2014
With both iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite nearing their official release dates, Family Sharing information has just appeared in both the App Store and Mac App Store. The news was first reported by German site iFun. A welcome addition to both OS X and iOS 8, Family Sharing allows up to six people in a family to share purchases from iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store without using the same account. Once Family Sharing is set up, members can download music, movies, TV shows, books, and apps without having to share IDs or passwords. The feature also automatically sets up a family photo stream where members can share photos, videos, and comments. A family can also keep a shared calendar where all members can add events. In the both App Stores, the Family Sharing options appear in the app's Information section. If a developer hasn’t set the feature up, it is listed as “Not Available.” Some apps, like SketchBook Pro for iPad, note that Family Sharing is only available for purchases made after a specific date.
