Line messaging app finally comes to iPad, albeit with limited features

October 15, 2014

The popular messaging app Line has finally come to iPad.

Note, though, that it does so not as a universal update to the existing Line app for iPhone, but in the form of a brand new app aptly called Line for iPad.

Of course, Line for iPad offers an interface that’s optimized for the large screen of the iPad, with support for messaging in landscape orientation as well as portrait mode and a redesigned friends list.

Another important thing to note about Line for iPad is that you can’t create a new account using it. Rather, to start using the app, you have to sign in using the email address and password registered to your smartphone Line account. If you don’t have a Line account yet, you can sign up for one in the Accounts section in the settings of the Line app for iPhone.

Another significant limitation of Line for iPad is its lack of support for audio and video calls. Actually, in its initial version, the app lacks a number of key features that are available in Line for iPhone.

For now, you can use Line for iPad to send and receive chat messages, voice messages, photos, videos, location info, contact info, and stickers purchased with Line on smartphone (albeit with limited support for animated ones).

Compatible with iPad and iPad mini running iOS 7.0 or later, Line for iPad is available now on the App Store for free.
