Backflip Studios’ Seabeard, the maritime platformer that got us all excited last year, when the app was first previewed, has received an update adding a brand new chapter, a new character, new jobs, and more.

You can download the recently updated Seabeard free on the App Store, and it’s optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The app’s 1.5.3 update is available now, and chief among its features is a brand new chapter called “Doza Seas.” In the app’s release notes, Backflip Studios explains:

  • The story continues on three brand new islands in Seabeard’s next chapter!
  • Explore Ironblack City and meet the Geodo, leader of the Doza!
  • Sail to Carnival Rock to play games, earn tokens and win prizes!
  • Visit Abundore Quarry to learn from the great Philippe Gastrognome
  • Buy brand new Doza pets, clothing, decorations and accessories!

This all sounds exciting, but there’s more – a new character, “miner,” allows users to extract metal ore from rock and to forge this metal into valuable items (which can be traded). There are also new jobs in the updated app, and gamers can now assist Burt Wolfbane in his mission to hunt and defeat giant beasts. Your accessories can now be displayed in bespoke buildings, and a huge number of bug fixes have been made in the app, too.

Finally, Seabeard has received support for Apple’s Metal, meaning the app’s graphics should now be even more impressive than they previously were.

All of this means there’s never been a better time to take Seabeard for a spin. It’s a fun, cute app which brought a smile to our faces when it first launched on iOS (not the least because of its similarities to Nintendo’s much-loved Legend of Zelda game series). Plus, Seabeard is a free title, too – so what have you got to lose?

Seabeard is available free of charge on the App Store, and it’s optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
