Alayer ($0.99 → Free, 58.8 MB): Layer loads and loads of effects on top of your favorite photos with Alayer. It’s for those who enjoy fiddling with their photos.

With Alayer, your possibilities are endless. You’re able to import any photo from your library or take a new one from within the app. You’re then able to add layer upon layer of textures, lens flares, effects, light leaks, gradients, and colors. All layers are fully adjustable, allowing you to create that perfect photo. You’re also able to erase parts of layers to focus on specific areas of your photo. The app also includes the ability to create your own textures, blur photos, create favorites, and share your creations via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email.

Alayer is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 68 ratings.

Universal:

Drive About: Number Neighborhood ($2.99 → Free, 226.8 MB): Drive, fly, and sail around Number Neighborhood in this educational game. It helps your child practice number identification and writing, counting, matching, and ordering. It’s great for parents looking to kickstart their young child’s ability to deal with numbers.

We included this app today because it’s nothing like all of the other apps featured. It’s highly interactive environment will keep your child hooked for hours on end. Half the fun is just driving, flying, and sailing around town to find mini-games to play. The mini-games themselves are highly engaging as well, requiring your child to control colorful little creatures to complete number exercises.

Dr. Panda’s Mailman ($3.99 → Free, 76.3 MB): Your little ones get to deliver mail on a motorized scooter in Dr. Panda’s Mailman. It’s designed for children who love to explore on their own.

They’re able to zoom by rivers, houses, mountains, and forests as they deliver mail to more than 10 animals, all with different behaviors, habits, and schedules. Your child is also able to create their own postcards and packages.

Slayin is classic gaming at its absolute best. First choose a hero that matches the way you want to play. Then put your fingers to the screen and start slaying every monster that gets in your way. To do so, simply guide your character’s weapon into them. Monsters will appear from all directions, so be prepared to jump and change directions constantly. Collect the coins that fall from your enemies to purchase new weapons, armor, and spells. Just keep in mind that once you die, you’re done for good and you’ll have to start all over. You don’t get to keep your leveled up character.

iPad:

Omicron HD ($0.99 → Free, 18.4 MB): Put your reflexes to the test with this fast-paced arcade game. It’s ideal for party settings thanks to its head-to-head multiplayer action.

You’re presented with a color before each round begins. You must try to tap on the tiles while they are that color to remove them from the board. They won’t stay in their same positions for long, so you must be quick about it. Remove all tiles before time expires to move on to the next round. You’re able to choose from three different modes, including a same-device multiplayer mode. The game also includes achievements and leaderboards via Game Center.
