Stop the alien invaders, scan documents while on the go, and look to the stars with today’s collection of apps and games.

All app prices are subject to change at any time and without notice regardless of stated free duration. Price changes are solely under the control of the developers.

iPhone:

Scanner+ Pro scan documents into PDF ($3.99 → Free, 21.8 MB): Turn your iPhone into a mobile scanner with this productivity app. It’s for those who don’t have or don’t want a bulky desktop scanner.

The app features a powerful image processor, which optimizes your scans by auto-detecting a document’s edges, removing shadows, and correcting the perspective. You’re also able to manually adjust the crop if need be, rotate your scan, and adjust the contrast and brightness. Then save your scan as a PDF and share it via email, AirDrop iTunes File Sharing, Wi-Fi, or any one of the many cloud storage services.

Scanner+ Pro scan documents into PDF is available for free for a limited time. It has a 5-star rating with a total of 133 ratings.

Universal:

xSky ($0.99 → Free, 59.5 MB): Get a good look at the night sky with xSky. It’s for everyday stargazers and aspiring astronomers.

Unlike similar apps, xSky really focuses on the view. The interface is clutter-free, sporting only three small icons: search, lock, and settings. You’re able to look around the sky just by holding your iDevice up and rotating. When something catches your eye, lock the screen and pinch to zoom in close. You can also search for objects in the sky and have xSky point them out.

xSky is available for free for a limited time. It has a 5-star rating with a total of 25 ratings.

Random Heroes 3 ($0.99 → Free, 14.2 MB): Take out the alien invaders one last time in Random Heroes 3. It’s for anyone who has enjoyed Ravenous Games’ other platformers like League of Evil and Devious Dungeon.

Ready for more insane platforming action? Random Heroes 3 builds upon the original hit game by offering more weapons, explosions, and crazy characters. You’re able to run, jump, and blast your way through each level with finely-tuned on-screen controls. Collect the coins that are dropped from your fallen enemies to upgrade your characters and weapons. The game includes more than 75 levels, 25 characters, 25 weapons, iCloud support, and achievements and leaderboards via Game Center.

Random Heroes 3 is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 44 ratings.

Orbitum ($1.99 → Free, 30.4 MB): Switch orbits and avoid getting sucked into the darkness in this frantic arcade game. It’s a one-button game designed for those who enjoy competing for high scores.

Orbitum requires good reflexes and a trained eye. Your little white circle will go spinning round and round an orbit. To leap to a new orbit, just tap the screen. You must avoid getting pulled in to the darkness in the middle of the screen while avoiding the outside orbit and all of the red triangles. Complicating matters, you’ll also want to collect the green hexagons for additional points and the blue squares to earn power-ups. One wrong move and the game is over.

Orbitum is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 394 ratings.

Talking Carl + ($0.99 → Free, 62.0 MB): The one and only Talking Carl is ready to hang out. Are you? It’s a fantastic app for children.

Carl is an adorable little red creature with an appetite for interaction. You’re able to poke, pinch, tickle, spin, and even strike him with lightning. Just be warned, he’s not overly fond of that last one. Carl’s also a talented musician, as he’s able to play a wide variety of instruments. You’re able to speak into your iDevice’s microphone as well and have Carl repeat what you say in his own unique way.

Talking Carl + is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 3567 ratings.
