One of the top iPad news apps, Flipboard, has quietly begun displaying ads in its pages. This move comes after the San Francisco, California-based company recently inked a deal with magazine publisher Condé Nast, according to news first reported by Mashable.
According to a recent report, a Condé Nast spokesperson has recently confirmed that UK print subscribers of GQ will be granted access to the iPad version for free.
Condé Nast continued adding to its list of iPad titles that include subscriptions. Vanity Fair, Glamour, Golf Digest and Allure are each now available in the App Store. Each issue sells for $1.99 or $19.99 for a one-year subscription, both as in-app purchases. Current print subscribers also have free access to the digital versions.
As expected, The New Yorker magazine became the first of Condé Nast’s titles to adopt Apple’s in-app subscription policy. Beginning today, current print subscribers to the weekly essay magazine have free access to the tablet edition. In addition, new subscriptions may be purchased for $59.99 a year, or $5.99 per month.
Condé Nast - the company responsible for various publications, including The New Yorker, Vogue and Vanity Fair - will reportedly adopt Apple's in app subscription policy in the near future, according to one source.
The iPad, despite its success, hasn't quite been the savior the publishing industry had hoped for. As we reported many times, iPad magazine have been lacking and failed to attract a lot of public. Yet, if you thought that would motivate publishers to lower their prohibitive prices, you couldn't be more wrong.
