See AllUntil they update DO NOT BUY!!!
Bought the iRig Pro so I grabbed the amplitube app and all of the bells and whistle add ons (make sure you purchase these from within amplitube not separate or you can't use them with the amplitube and you waste your $$) and messed around with it to figure all the features out. I admit it's pretty easy to use, sounds great, and can be a great tool for writing and crafting your ideas anywhere on your iPad mini except one issue: recording! When you record as long as you never close out of the app or open any other projects you'll have playback and can continue to add your layers to the song, but the minute you close out or leave the project in any way and come back to it later your waveform is there but no sound! Opened a trouble ticket with support and was told they are aware of the issue and are in the final testing phase of an update that will correct the issue and to not change any of my recording or delete them as when the update comes out it will restore everything back to how it was. Sounds great, but when's the update coming? It's been a couple of weeks since I got that email and still nothing and if you knew the app was defective why would you continue to allow people to purchase it?? If this issue with amplitube gets corrected wow this is a great app for any musician but right now it's an overpriced metronome/practice tool.
Works Great, Sounds Great, Delivers
I have no idea what's up with these negative reviews. I re-downloaded this app on my iPad 4, and everything works fine. All of my in-app purchases showed up, the sound quality is excellent, and the new layout is pretty sweet. Okay, so they've made the in-app purchases more visible. Cool. I didn't know there was an OCD model, and I probably wouldn't have looked for one, but I sure am enjoying it. If you don't want to buy the extras, then don't—the app is well stocked from the beginning.
Look, by and large, I'm mild-weathered about IK Multimedia gear and software. They're okay, but usually nothing to write home about. The exception to this is their amp/effects emulation. I've been using everything from kidney-bean-shaped Pods to Eleven and beyond ever since this market opened up, and IK's Amplitube has always kept up with the competition.
There are a ton of amp/effects modeling apps out there today, and most of them are okay. What I love about IK and Amplitube is that you can count on them to be accurate. I wanted an amp that sounds like my Hotrod Deluxe Deville, so I bought one. Other than the fact that I can get amp distortion out of the app without hitting tinnitus-inducing SPLs, the emulation is perfect. It's your call, but I'd say this is among the most solid guitar apps you'll find.
On the cusp of greatness...
I like the amp models better than Garageband and Line6 - I think they sound much better. However, this rig has way too much noise. I know it comes with a noise filter effect for free, but it cuts into the signal and tone too much. Please work on making this app more quiet. For jamming, this app gets 5 stars. But when you by the multi-track recorder, things go downhill. The recorder leaves a lot to be desired. I think everyone digs the analog retro visuals, but analog, linear tape-like recording is the pits. I believe every would rather have a multi-track/view workspace like every other recording app (Garageband, sonar, cubase, etc..) It is a stable app, but the few crashes I've had were when I was recording. I know the resource challenges you have with the hardware limitations of the iPad, so hats of to you for even attempting multi-track recording at all.
It would be neat if we could save the tracks to Drop Box or Mobile Me iDisk.
Everyone complains about their $20, but they don't understand what goes into making an app like this. $20 is a steal, I think it's underpriced. It's a substantial undertaking, and requires advanced programming talent - it's a bit more complicated than Angry Birds. Also, please ask the guys to offer the bass amp in the IPhone app!!!
