According a growing thread on Apple’s Support Forums, the TV app struggles with ripped DVDs in iOS 10.2.

Starting with iOS 10.2, the new TV app replaced the ubiquitous Videos app. Previously, any user wanting to watch content ripped from a DVD on their iOS device could simply import it into iTunes and then transfer over to an iPhone or iPad.

But with the latest version of iOS, many users are unable to load the content through iTunes. They’ll receive some type of error message or sometimes the transfer won’t work at all.

Adding the TV widget to the Today screen seems to bring ripped content back for some users.

Adding the TV widget to the Today screen seems to bring ripped content back for some users.

If this is an issue for you, a number of users are reporting a simple workaround by adding the TV widget to the Today page.

To do that, first swipe right from the main lockscreen and then scroll down to the very bottom and select the “Edit” button. Then, in the list of widgets, head down to TV and hit the “+” to add it.

After adding the widget, many users are saying that their ripped content now appears inside the TV app.

Because of this workaround, it seems more than likely that the issue is caused by some type of bug and that Apple will hopefully fix it with a future software update.

Are you having an issue playing ripped DVD content with the TV app? Let us know in the comments. I’m running a beta version of iOS 10.2.1 and having the same issue.
