A possible iPhone 8 battery issue has surfaced. Taiwanese and Chinese media are reporting one iPhone 8 Plus owner saw her device crack open during charging. Meanwhile, one Japanese owner has claimed his iPhone 8 Plus arrived with the screen visibly detached from the body, according to TNW.

In the first case, a Ms. Wu claims the issue occurred five days after she purchased a 64GB iPhone 8 Plus in rose gold.

Wu placed her phone on charge, using the supplied cable and adaptor. After three minutes, she reported seeing the front panel bulge, and eventually lift completely from the device.

After the occurrence, Wu returned the phone to her carrier who sent it to Apple for analysis.

Both of these cases are obviously troubling. However, it’s worth pointing out Apple manufactures millions of iPhones each year. Like all technology products, problems do occur.

A good rule of thumb: If you’re new iPhone suddenly cracks open during charging or otherwise, take it to a safe location immediately. Then call Apple for further assistance.

We’ll continue to follow this story.
