TrypScore Is a Free App that Automatically Scores Your Driving and Lets You Win Prizes

July 16, 2021

Playing games while driving a car is a bad idea. But encouraging driver safety through gamification is genius.

That’s exactly the idea behind TrypScore, the world’s first app that scores your driving behavior and rewards you for driving well. Those rewards include gift cards, discounts, contest entries, and staying alive.

Here’s how it works. Every time you take a journey with TrypScore on your phone, it automatically tracks your performance in the background (don’t worry – it uses minimal data and battery power).

After your journey – or “Tryp” – you get a score based on multiple factors, including acceleration, braking, steadiness, cornering, speed, phone use, and more.

The safer you drive, the higher your score. The higher your score, the more XP, rewards, and contest entries you win. And you can improve your prize prospects even more by driving consistently well and keeping your TrypStreak alive.

There are other ways to win prizes, too. You can earn rewards by driving safely within 500 meters of a marked location called a Pyn, or by completing weekly missions.

And you don’t even have to be behind the wheel. If you’re not much of a driver, you can take part in the app’s Daily Trivia instead, answering questions on road safety to bolster your theoretical knowledge.

All the while you’ll be placed on local and global leaderboards, allowing you to compare yourself – and, let’s face it, compete – with other drivers around the world.

So why do we need TrypScore? Till now, correcting driver behavior has been all about punishment, in the form of speeding tickets, insurance hikes, and fines. But none of these measures seems to work, with traffic deaths increasing in 2020 by 7.2% over the previous year – and that’s despite all the lockdowns.

TrypScore is a better way, incentivising good behavior and giving drivers real insights into what they’re doing right and wrong. The app’s stated mission is to minimize casualties in a safe and fun way. That can’t be bad.

If you’re based in Canada or the US you can download TrypScore for free right now on the App Store and Google Play.
