Can You Defend Your Tower From Ferocious Beasts In Overtime Rush?

June 19, 2014

Overtime Rush (Free) by iBear LLC is an exciting fantasy tower defense game. You can customize your tower, fortify it with weapons, and rebuild it over and over. Your job is to cast spells against your enemies, such as bombs, land mines, and more if you keep playing. And frankly, that won’t be too hard, considering how addictive Overtime Rush is. It makes for hours and hours of fun for players of any age.

If you notice the title, Overtime Rush, you’ll probably think of sports. Sports, for example, like hockey. That’s right, monsters and hockey sticks are the enemy here. That wins uniqueness points in my book. So, we’re looking at a hockey-themed fantasy monster tower defense game. Yeah, you won’t get bored.

Overtime Rush is played from the perspective of your tower, your character. Your tower can be customized in several different ways, mainly pertaining to type of weaponry. The strategy here is to appropriately balance the power component of the attack weapon of choice with the speed at which it can attack. For example, a rifle-equipped tower can kill a monster in one hit, but attacks very slowly, something which could be disadvantageous if many monsters are skating by at once. An electricity-equipped tower attacks quickly, but each shock only takes a small chunk out of each monster’s life.

A balance needs to be struck, and that is up to you. In addition to defending from the tower, you can also use bombs, land mines, and daggers to attack enemies that are out of range of a tower. These come in limited quantities, and can be purchased with diamonds, a form of currency the game uses in addition to coins, which are earned in successful gameplay. However, these are also available as an in-app purchase. Like most free games, there are in-app purchases, but again, like most free games, the app can be enjoyed plenty without spending money. All you have to do is play it more.

What really surprised me about Overtime Rush was that in spite of that fact that it is a free game, the graphics and sound were of excellent quality. During gameplay, a dramatic orchestral number, that is highly reminiscent of John Williams, is constantly playing and encouraging you. And the graphics are crisp and adorable, and the game menu features a beautiful illustration of the characters.

If tower defense games are your forte, I high recommend the recently released OTTTD, which integrate RPG-style gaming into the mix. For kids, a great tower defense game to download is Go Home Dinosaurs, in which players must defend their BBQ from pesky prehistoric creatures.

In short, Overtime Rush is a beautiful game that is well worth your time to download and play. It is unique and fun for kids and adults alike. It has it all – motivating music, crisp graphics, and smooth gameplay. Overtime Rush is available on the App Store for the iPad for free.
