Rock Lobby (Free) by Rock Lobby, LLC. is an app that helps you discover, experience, share, and review live music events that are happening nearby.

If you’re not up to much on a weekend and want something fun to do, why not go to a local music event? If you live in a metropolitan area, there are probably events happening most of the time. Discovering the best shows isn’t always easy.

This app aims to help you find what you’re looking for, while also helping local performers get discovered.

A lot of what this app does is based around social interactions. You can share your live music experiences with friends or discover which events other people are sharing on the main feed. If you’re at an event, you can add photos and let people know how it’s going. You can also tell people about the events you’ve been to or the ones you plan on attending in the future.

If there’s nothing on your feed that looks interesting, you can discover more shows by searching the app, using the map view, or browsing through the event listings.

All of the event listings on Rock Lobby come from Last.fm. The process of searching through them and discovering what’s going on nearby actually works quite well. The map view lets you easily see where the shows are and the listings give you more details about them.

When you find shows that you might want to go to, you can add them to your calendar or share them with friends.

Although Rock Lobby does make finding music events easy, I feel like it’s a bit more complicated than it needs to be. It was also quite slow, especially when loading the map view or the event listings.

If you enjoy live music events and want a better way to discover what’s going on around you, Rock Lobby is worth checking out. Hopefully the interface and the app’s speed will be improved in future updates.

For alternative ways to learn about events that are going on nearby, both Meetup and Vamos are worth checking out.

You can get Rock Lobby for iPhone free in the App Store.
