《无量寿经》传到中国后，影响甚大。东晋青山竺法旷以“无量寿为净土之因”，“有从则讲，独处则诵”。后有慧远在庐山设白莲社，弘扬念佛法门。东魏昙鸾更作《往生论注》，弘扬此经，立难行、易行二道之说。此后，历代注家辈出，疏释不绝。朝鲜和越南，此经传习也颇盛。
