What is it about?

The festival “Augustiunetus” (Sleepless in August) came into being in 2010, when a group of people who all had links with Pärnu, joined their ideas and energies in order to create an event that would prolong the summer season and enhance the culture created here. During summer, Pärnu is filled with domestic and international visitors, leaving the locals a bit neglected. So, this is how our third objective came to be – to bring more focus on the people who live in Pärnu and to demonstrate the amazing variety of arts created here. This idea inspired us to have the main street in the beach area – Supeluse St. – closed down for traffic for one day and open it for pedestrians, as well as for popup-cafés, musicians, artists, theatrical acts, etc. In six years, Supeluse Street has burst into full bloom during the Augustiunetus festival, and the summer air can be felt in every corner. One should come and breathe it in themselves in order to get the best of it.

In 2010, the Augustiunetus festival was awarded with the best cultural event prize by Pärnu City Government. In 2011, 2012 and 2013 we received the title of the most memorable cultural event (The Golden Oasis award). The number of participants as well as visitors has grown each year, having reached around 10,000 people in the last few years.
