For the first time ever on a tablet platform, the visual architectural story of the iconic Taj Mahal mausoleum is documented in a stunning photographic and audio rich tome in this Volume of EDITION29.
We start with the Empress Nur Jahan and the jewel box like marble mausoleum she commissioned for her father Itimad ud Daulah. This tomb structure was the precursor to the immense marble and semiprecious stone laced architecture of the Taj. The Taj Mahal, was commissioned by, Nur Jahan’s stepson Shah Jahan, in memory of her niece Mumtaz Mahal.

With over 20,000 workers, and artisans taking 22 years to construct the Taj Mahal. The Taj is probably one of the most internationally sourced constructions of its time. It is recorded that, materials, artisans and planners, from all corners of the globe merged in bringing this, Mughal representation of heavenly paradise, to full architectural blossom here on earth.

The Taj is an immense mausoleum set on one end of a large garden complex, placed along the banks of the Yamuna river. The Taj Mahal’s site composition, can be seen as a much larger variation, of stately garden homes, that once dotted both sides of this riverbank.
This comprehensive photographic Issue on the Taj Mahal, includes photographs, motion pages, historical essays, sounds from the Taj complex, and a series of audio interviews. The interviewees include renowned Indian architect Sonali Rastogi, of the firm, Morphogenesis. Author and Islamic architecture and Islamic geometric design expert, Daud Sutton. Princeton University Professor of Islamic Art, Michael Barry. Author, preeminent expert on the Taj Mahal and Mughal Architecture, and Professor of Art at the University of Vienna Ebba Koch.

The stunning photographs and motion pages for this Issue are from EDITION29, with additional photography by Kurian P Kurian and Krishna Angira. The cover photographs are by Krishna Angira and Kurian P Kurian.
