hospitality Decisions in Finance (hDeFi)

The purpose of this App is to engage you, hospitality professionals, in the concepts of finance so that you can:
1.Think of them… in an intuitive manner rather than as complicated ideas from a textbook…
2.Use these concepts in your day-to-day decision-making, whether at work or at home…
3.Talk, discuss, and provide your opinions about these concepts with others.
We will discuss finance concepts with a practical approach so that you can use this understanding to make smart decisions.
The idea is to “Defi” the norm that finance is “not for everyone.” This app is not simply about doing the calculations. The more often we engage ourselves, the better would be our understanding of finance… that's my philosophy to learn almost anything in life!
As a teacher, I have found that relating corporate finance concepts to personal finance examples help students understand the concepts. I apply the same simple principle in this App… engage the users in finance concepts, wherever possible through the prism of personal finance.
This App includes the following components: periodic messages related to financial decisions, a forum for you to provide feedback and discuss everyday hospitality business challenges that require a finance perspective, and access to financial concepts essential to decision making. For current students there is also a tab to receive reminders of weekly reading assignments. Other users can turn off this tab by browsing under the ‘More’ tab.
Engagement is a two way street. I hope to get feedback, responses, and comments from you, the users. And always remember, “F” for Fun… and “F” for Finance!!! ☺
