App Store Description

Kakebo is the mindful practice of spending and saving by manually tracking your finances to help you achieve your savings goals. Effective for individuals and couples who struggle with managing household finances, students who have just started their first job, or children who need a way to manage their allowance, Kakebo provides visibility into where your money is going.

We know what you’re thinking. There are already budgeting apps out there that connect your bank and credit card accounts and automate reports for you. That automation is very convenient, but it also detaches you from reality. How many times have you swiped your debit card throughout the day only to later be surprised by your ending balance?

We’ve found that because of this automation people aren’t actually taking the time to review their finances, create financial goals and cut expenses. We believe that by putting some thought into evaluating our finances and manually recording expenses and savings goals, those ideas are fixed more firmly in our minds. Managing our money becomes more tangible.

The average person checks their phone every 6 minutes and touches their screens 2,617x a day. Imagine what you could do if only a fraction of your daily phone time was spent logging your expenses.

Using Kakebo is simple. At the beginning of each month, open your Kakebo app and begin the process of saving money by thinking mindfully about your financial goals. You reflect on the prior month by asking yourself these four questions:

1) How much money do I have available?

2) How much would I like to save?

3) How much am I spending?

4) How can I improve?

Then, record your income, set your financial goals, add your expenses and then note what actions you will take to achieve your goals. Simple.

Your Kakebo allows you to track your daily spending wisely by recording your expenses and assigning them to one of four main categories: (consider changing these names)

Essential
Optional
Entertainment
Extra

Forming the habit of recording an expense immediately after you transact allows you to be mindful of your spending and the progress you are making towards your savings goals. At the end of the month, you review and compare your budget to reality.

Kakebo adopts these simple, effective and proven century-old Japanese principles and transforms this method into a digital solution encouraging you to learn your spending habits, save for what’s important and regain control of your finances.
