Auto insurers in Canada are increasingly offering drivers the opportunity to join a usage-based insurance program, which monitors how you drive to determine if you’ll get a discount off your insurance. The KANETIX.ca DriveSmart app will give you some insight on how your driving stacks up and if you could save on your insurance.

The KANETIX.ca DriveSmart app will grade your driving on the most important components that will be looked at in a usage-based insurance program; acceleration, braking, and handling and you’ll be given a score for each (plus some tips for improvement, if needed). The app also takes into consideration your speed, when you drive, and for how long, which is then factored into your overall driving score.

Drivers with an overall average score over 70 are considered safer drivers, and will likely benefit from a usage-based insurance program.

The app runs in the background and automatically detects when you start driving; it’s completely hands-free so there’s no need start or stop the app, or check your phone while driving—in fact, your driving score will be penalized if you do. You're graded on your acceleration, braking and handling skills, as well as an overall score for every trip.
