True feeling in writing is rare, partly because it’s something anyone sensible would rather avoid, but mostly because it’s a living thing — the conditions it requires, the contexts in which it thrives, are almost impossible to protect from damage in the transfer from the life to the page

What is it about?

True feeling in writing is rare, partly because it’s something anyone sensible would rather avoid, but mostly because it’s a living thing — the conditions it requires, the contexts in which it thrives, are almost impossible to protect from damage in the transfer from the life to the page. And yet when it is there, it is there every time you look at it. It’s undeniable.

App Store Description

True feeling in writing is rare, partly because it’s something anyone sensible would rather avoid, but mostly because it’s a living thing — the conditions it requires, the contexts in which it thrives, are almost impossible to protect from damage in the transfer from the life to the page. And yet when it is there, it is there every time you look at it. It’s undeniable.

Ladowich is named for Ladowich Latham Sawyer, tin miner, inventor of a spring-pull window shade, caribou hunter, Arctic adventurer... Don’t worry, you haven’t heard of him, but let's just say he knew how to take risks. Each issue will feature short works by ten writers, and something long. Every month you’ll receive something strange, true, and not what you were expecting.

Davis and Edgar are internationally-known poets; together they published The Hat, the independent small press journal which while it was publishing had the most poems chosen for the Best American Poetry series. Davis is the author of two collections of poetry, served as the Poetry Editor of The Nation, and has published poems in American Poetry Review, Poetry, and the New Yorker. Edgar is the author of two collections of poetry, edited numerous books for Teachers & Writers Collaborative, and his poem, “Birthday,” was named one of the best poems of the 20th century by John Ashbery.

Ladowich is published the last Thursday of the month (except for January and July). The app is a free download that includes one issue and a one-month free trial. After that, auto-renewing subscriptions are $1.99 for a month or $19.99 for a year. Your subscription revenues directly support the writing, editing, and production of Ladowich.

When you become a subscriber, you can download any issue published while your subscription is active. If your subscription lapses, you will still be able to read the issues published while you were an active subscriber. Tap the “Restore” button to make previously purchased issues available on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad. You can update or opt out of renewal for your subscription in your iTunes Store account settings. Subscriptions automatically renew to your iTunes Account within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
