App Store Description

VibView is an application designed to facilitate the perception of the outside world by people with blindness.
It detects contours and distances to provide, through tactile and audio feedback, a description of the image placed in front of the device's camera.

Note: the distance is derived from image analysis and therefore may not be accurate, so DO NOT USE TO MOVE IN AN UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT.

To avoid excessive overheating of the haptic feedback motor, the signal stops for continuous use longer than 10 seconds and resumes after some seconds.

Functionality:

Mode 1:
Tactile feedback by swiping your finger on the screen, the contours are detected.
With a double tap in the center of the screen the image is processed after a fraction of a second, becoming explorable. The depth map is obtained with AI algorithms.
With tactile feedback at higher frequencies for more distant objects and at lower frequencies for closer objects you can perceive the environment scene. Thanks to the gyroscopic sensors you can also explore the image simply by placing a finger on the screen and tilting the device, as if you were changing the direction of pointing. With pinching you can zoom, wait a fraction of a second for the haptic signal to finish processing.
You can also double tap to get a depth map from flat images like a canvas.

With dual camera iPhone you can continuously explore the depth value, if your device has Force Touch you can increase the perception of differences by pressing the screen more forcefully.
Distances greater than about 5 meters are not distinguished, but you can double tap to get the relative distances.

Mode 2:

Available only for dual camera iPhones, it allows you to use the
"virtual stick", which can be changed in length by swiping up and down, the device vibrates if it points to something closer to the length of the virtual stick (at launch it sets its length equal to the distance).
With swipe to the right you try the "surface slope" function to orient yourself with respect to a wall. Touch the screen and the vibration will change according to the inclination of the wall.

Mode 3:

Touch the screen and you will feel a characteristic vibration according to the touched color, the image is blurred to allow the analysis of an average of the color, if your device has the Force Touch by pressing harder you reduce the blur.

Mode 4:

This feature gives you 3D spatial sound, try it with earphones!
Hear the depth and objects with an audio atmosphere based on distances and colors on a 5x5 matrix (it is reduced to 3x3 and restarted if the device overheats), with swipe up you listen only the depths and with swipe down also the colors, keep swiping up or down to change the sounds.
If your device has a dual camera, the calculated distance will be in real time and absolute, otherwise the audio scene will be recalculated when the shot changes and you will have a small delay, furthermore the distance will be relative.

Switch between modes with double tap on the right or left edge of the screen.

VibView does not access the Internet or store images in any way.
