1Password v2.0 Still Free, But Not For Long

June 4, 2009

If you haven't ever heard of 1Password, it is a very handy utility that allows you to safely store important personal information like login information, passwords, credit cards, and basically any other type of information that you need to have readily available.  The application has been around for months, but it recently has been updated to version 2.0 which means that it won't be free for much longer. Having all of this important information on your iPhone or iPod touch wouldn't be safe without some sort of security system in place.  1Password has you covered with not one, but two layers of security.  The application asks you to set a four digit numerical password along with an optional secondary password just in case you lose your device.  1Password also features a built in browser, so all of that login information you have stored doesn't need to be re-entered when you access a site.  Simply open up the login information within the application and there is a link to go directly to the site with all of the information filled in for you. If you already own the desktop version of the software, 1Password for the iPhone gets even better.   Instead of having to re-enter all of your sensitive information, the two applications are able to sync seamlessly over Wi-Fi.  To utilize this feature, however, you will need version 2.9.16 or later of the desktop software.  If you don't have the desktop version of the software, it is available at Agile Web Solutions' online store for $39.95. 1Password is currently available in the App Store for free.  On Saturday, June 6th the price will be raised to $4.99 which will actually be an introductory price.  Agile Web Solutions intends to add even more great features to 1Password, and after they do that the application will finally settle in at $9.99. If you are a smart shopper, you will pick up 1Password while it is free.  What do you have to lose?  1Password is so handy that our own Ian Hamilton put it in his weekly Hidden Gems column, and that is saying a lot!
