Netflix Streaming Video Coming To iPhone, iPod Touch?
August 4, 2009
According to a recent report from Multichannel News, the iPhone, iPod touch, and Nintendo Wii are next in line to gain the ability to stream video via Netflix's "Watch Instantly" feature.
The Watch Instantly feature is currently available for all Netflix subscribers who use a PC or Mac, but it can also be used on other devices such as an Xbox 360 as long as you subscribe to an unlimited Netflix plan. The service currently contains about 12,000+ television shows and films for instant viewing.
The app would apparently be restricted to Wi-Fi only connections since Apple and AT&T haven't allowed any other bandwidth-heavy media apps to stream over 3G at this point.
Multichannel News cites the usual "industry executive familiar with Netflix's plans" as their source, but they have not been able to get any confirmation from Netflix itself, so don't hold your breath.
Are any of you current Netflix subscribers excited about the possibility of streaming content to your iPhone or iPod touch even though it will most likely be restricted to a Wi-Fi only connection?
