MMS.  Those three letters have caused a lot of emotional pain for some iPhone users, but it looks like the wait for the highly sought after feature is almost over.  AT&T has officially announced that MMS will be enabled for the iPhone 3G and 3GS via a software update that will be available for download from iTunes on September 25th. Now I know what you are thinking, September 25th is actually a few days after the official end of summer, but AT&T has an excuse.
"It was important to give our customers a positive experience from day one," AT&T said. "We support more iPhone customers than any other carrier in the world so we took the time necessary to make sure our network is ready to handle what we expect will be a record volume of MMS traffic. We truly appreciate our customers’ patience and hope they'll understand our desire to get it right from the start."
AT&T has been working for months to prepare their systems and network for MMS because the amount of bandwidth that will be chewed up by iPhone users will be fairly large.
"We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS," AT&T said. "The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One. We appreciate your patience as we work toward that end."
Mark September 25th on your calendar and get a large stockpile of pictures ready for the big day.  AT&T says their are prepared for all of the activity, so let's test them to make sure.
