October 26, 2009

It took 14 years and, sadly, one new singer, but Alice in Chains finally released a brand new album with brand new songs on September 29th.  Now the band intends to release a new iPhone and iPod touch app that should fully compliment their new album in variety of ways. The app will feature full audio streams of three songs from Black Gives Way to Blue, including Check My Brain, A Looking In View, and Acid Bubble.  The app will also feature streaming videos for Check My Brain and A Looking In View.  The content won't stop there either, as the app will be updated with new audio and video media on an ongoing basis. I have little doubt that many of you Alice in Chains fans already own the new album and have probably watched the music videos, so the rest of the content contained within the app is probably of more interest to you.  The Alice in Chains iPhone app will include rare photos of the band, breaking news, tour dates, band biography, discography, fan wall, and direct access to the band's website, mailing list, merchandise, and tickets.  You will also be able to interact with the album's artwork by dragging, spinning, and holding, which will reveal hidden visual gems.  Finally, you will be able to share your experience with others via email, Facebook, and Twitter.
"With the Alice In Chains app, we wanted to represent every song on Black Gives Way To Blue as an interactive and immersive experience," says Jeff Zakim, Senior Director, Global Digital Marketing, EMI Music. "We achieved that with the custom-designed Interactive Tracks. The interactivity is furthered by giving fans the ability to share, comment and connect across Fan Wall posts, email, Facebook and Twitter."
The Alice in Chains Black Gives Way to Blue iPhone app will be available in the App Store tomorrow, October 27th, although we aren't exactly sure at this point if it will be available for free or if it will cost you some dough.  Hopefully we will be able to update you with that information as soon as possible. Embedded below is a video demonstration of the app.
